5 Solid Resume Tips from Sweller Jobs

Everyone wants to make a good impression and your resume is your calling card, your initial ‘handshake’ and introduction as to who and what you have to offer a company.

Put your best foot forward and fast! Believe it or not, most employers will only scan over the resumes a recruiter delivers, meaning, if your resume does not stand out in the first 3-4 seconds of scanning, it may get put aside for one with a more compelling beginning.

  1. A great idea is to start your resume with an Objective, tell your future employer exactly what you’re looking for. This will not only give them a clear understanding of the opportunity you’re seeking, but can help your recruiter put you in your most desired job.
  2. Following the Objective, there should be a Skills Section on your resume. This section will list your top skills and smarts, allowing your future employer to see exactly what you bring to the table without having to read your entire life story; not that it’s not interesting, but as I noted above, many employers only scan resumes initially.
  3. It’s important to be factual, which includes being truthful, as companies today have tremendous resources to make sure your resume matches up. I have seen companies release newly hired employees because they received information that did not coincide with their resume.
  4. If you are applying for a specific job that you are willing to do anything for, it makes sense to put together a custom resume that highlights and lists the exact tasks that the company is seeking. Your focus should be to provide information that directly relates to or matches the job description.
  5. Lastly, make sure your resume is up to date, no time gaps, no misspelled words and for heaven sakes, make sure every possible way to reach you is listed and accurate.

Best wishes in your job search. There are tons of great jobs out there for those who are willing to prepare and Go Get’m!
